Priyanka Chopra has opened up the “pressure” she feels to look “a certain way”.
In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph’s Stella magazine, the Quantico actress and former contest winner admitted that she didn’t always have confidence in her body.
“In the past, I’ve always felt the pressure to look a certain way. I’ve been raised my whole life with unrealistic standards of beauty – we all have that,” she explained. “Growing up, I thought everything had to be perfect, thin or sample size, and airbrushed. It took a while for me to come to terms with my natural skin tone and the natural texture of my hair.”
Chopra revealed that she already needed professional hairstyle and makeup before every interview, but in recent years, she’s gone for her own.
“I am now comfortable in my skin,” said the 39-year-old. “I can work with brands that prioritize individuality and self-expression.”
Earlier this month, the former Miss World winner revealed on the VS Voices podcast that she received backlash for gaining weight in her 30s, which kicked off a “dark phase” in her life.
“I struggled because I used to have heartache online from people like, ‘You look different, you get older,’ this and that. It shocked me. mind at that time, ”she recalls. “Obviously, being high in the industry and having such a tight focus on my form, what my figure was or what my measurements were, looking at every part of me in depth, I sort of grew into the twenties, thinking that was normal. “
