PDI Launches New Disinfectant Products – Nonwovens Industry Magazine

PDI has announced the dual launch of innovative new disinfectants to help infection prevention professionals in the fight against the increase in hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) as well as the ongoing battle against Covid-19. As part of a tiered approach, the new products, Sani-24 Germicidal Disposable Wipes, Sani-HyperCide Germicidal Disposable Wipes and Sani-HyPerCide Germicidal Spray, further support PDI’s commitment to help prevent infections and to promote health and well-being.

The Sani-24 wipe is the first and only EPA-registered disinfectant that uses Continuously Active Disinfectant (CAD), a breakthrough technology developed by a leader in antimicrobial solutions, Microban. CAD provides protection against a wide range of pathogenic organisms in one minute of contact time, while leaving a protective layer of disinfectant on the surface as it dries. This antimicrobial shield will continuously kill ESKAPE pathogens, which are responsible for more than 40% of HAIs in healthcare settings, as well as SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

“With ongoing challenges to control and prevent infections in healthcare settings, the Sani-24 wipe is an important addition to our innovative portfolio of disinfectants that help maintain a clean and safe environment,” said Jake Watts, vice- President, Upstream Marketing, PDI. “Given PDI’s long tradition of pioneering infection prevention solutions, we are proud to offer healthcare facilities a solution that protects surfaces and equipment from recontamination around the clock.”

Sani-HyperCide Sanitizer, available in wipe and spray formats, is a new, powerful, ready-to-use cleaner with a bleach-free hydrogen peroxide formula effective against more than 20 HAI-causing microorganisms, including highly contagious and difficult microorganisms – to eradicate pathogens, Clostridioides difficile (C. diff4), Candida auris (C. auris) and norovirus, as well as SARS-CoV-2. Designed as an alternative to bleach-based disinfectants, the Sani-HyperCide Wallet offers easy-to-use and effective one-step cleaning and disinfection used for daily, terminal and epidemic cleaning, compatible with most materials and surfaces, and requires no mixing or dilution. Its innovative formulation and versatility improves overall time effectiveness and reduces the risk of uniform fading as seen with whitening products.

Recently, hospitals and healthcare facilities have experienced an alarming increase in serious and emerging pathogens. In fact, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report showed that after years of decline, US hospitals saw a significant increase in HAIs in 2020, largely due to the Covid-19 pandemic. . The CDC has also considered superbugs such as C. diff and C. auris as urgent threats to the US healthcare system due to their highly contagious nature, high mortality rate and resistance to treatment.

“Today’s vulnerable healthcare environment has created an urgent need to strengthen infection prevention programs to better protect patients and staff,” says Watts. “Multiple layers of defense, including effective and easy-to-use disinfectants, will continue to be essential to help prevent infections, reduce costs and improve care.”
