Fans’ fury over revealing Nicole Kidman magazine cover

To live

Acting Australian royalty Nicole Kidman is roasted online after stripping for a revealing magazine cover shoot.

Fans slammed the 54-year-old Oscar-winning actor’s style and “really bad Photoshop” cover for vanity loungefrom the Hollywood issue of 2022.

Nicole Kidman is nominated for a Best Actress Oscar again this year, for her role as Lucille Ball in Be the Ricardos. Despite this, she told the magazine that she still doesn’t consider herself a movie star.

“I’m a little eccentric. I’m in a state where I’m just ready to go with the flow,” she said.

“I’m always in this place to go, ‘I’m not quite sure what defines a movie star… I always approach acting like I’m fresh out of high school. ‘dramatic Arts.”

She joins fellow stars Idris Elba, Penelope Cruz, Kristen Stewart, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simu Liu, Andrew Garfield and Michaela Jae Rodriguez for the number celebrating stars breaking boundaries in Hollywood. It was released on Friday morning (Australian time).

But it’s the “awful Photoshop work” in her cover photo — which shows Kidman wearing just a Miu Miu two-piece — that sparked controversy. The skimpy black top and matching mini are paired with gray knee-high socks and brown and white pointed pumps.

“No 54-year-old body looks like this, not even Nicole Kidman’s. Why do we keep doing this?” read a popular Twitter response to the cover.

“She’s a beautiful woman and she can do whatever she wants with her body. It’s a critique of the magazine’s stylistic choices and insane airbrushing.

“Nicole has a great body, and it’s not her body. Her shape isn’t like that at all. Why do they have to Photoshop?” another fan asked.

“Why vanity lounge decided to ruin Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz with all that Photoshop? writes another.

But not everyone was unhappy, with other Twitter users accusing people of “body-shaming” the Hollywood star.

“I strongly dispute the word. Almost all photo shoots for professional magazines are photoshopped. But “heavily” on this one isn’t it. People keep consuming a lot, you would think Nicole Kidman looks like Shrek irl,” a fan wrote.

“And yet you see paps pictures of her and it’s close to what you see here.”

Kidman also tells the magazine that she played Ball in the film that earned her this year’s Oscar nomination.

“Aaron Sorkin wrote her in as the smartest person in the room, because she was,” she said.

“A lot of times, especially as a woman, if you’re smart, there are a lot of excuses” — but not for Ball, she noted.

The 2022 Oscars ceremony will take place on March 28.
