False Claim: TIME Magazine Cover Featuring President Trump Says “It’s Time To Go”
Social media users have shared an image online that shows a TIME magazine cover featuring President Donald J. Trump, with the text “TIME…to go.” This photo has been manipulated and does not represent an actual TIME cover.
The claim uses the magazine headline “TIME” and adds “to go” below it to communicate the idea that President Trump should leave office.
A TIME spokesperson confirmed to Reuters by email that the claim’s coverage was not authentic.
Digging further, there are giveaways that the claim coverage has been changed. The cover is missing the issue date in the upper right corner and the “time.com” in the lower right corner, making it inconsistent with typical TIME magazine covers. It includes the words “double issue” in the upper left corner, which some editions of TIME magazine have ( here ).
It is possible that the claim cover has been modified from an authentic cover with a similar design, such as the one shown here .
President Trump has graced the cover of TIME magazine several times before and during his presidency. Reuters could not find the cover in the “Vault” page claim on TIME magazine’s website where most past covers can be seen ( time.com/vault/year/2020/ ).
Fake. This blanket depicting President Trump was made.
